i cant remember if i blogged about this before but i feel like blogging about one of my favourite art works.
this is "the chariot" by alberto giacometti, famous for his stretched figurines with elongated limbs. he once said that the final result of his sculptures represented the sensation he felt when he looked at a woman. hahaha. okayy thats a side point.
i like this sculpture of a thin, elongated woman standing in precarious equilibrium, as if suspended in midair, between movement and stasis. I love how she stands, in a highly dignified manner, as if raising above every one else, but yet, she seems to be isolated, alone and extremely vulnerable. the way she was sculpted, looking very rough and unpolished, typical of giacomettis works, further emphasises her vulnerability, or perhaps her unimportance. the title "the chariot" possibly refers to the chariots used in egyptian warfare, so she was probably at war with something, but ill look at it as she was at war with herself.
i like the way it was sculpted, its form, and the interesting use of space - such that the figure looks as if it was suspended in empty space. i also like it because it kind of reminds me of the very important people in this world, the presidents, the CEOs, the people up there, highly respected, maybe even worshipped, or perhaps hated, and them, some of them, having everything they could ever have but yet feeling isolated, alone and vulnerable.
so yeaa its quite an interesting work.
watched 17 again with xc yesterday. nice =) but forgettable. not those type of movies that will leave a lasting impression. and bought two belts. xc bought a lot more stuff haha. oh and we both bought the same bag from agnes b. for our mums for mothers day! i didnt know what to buy at first (no wait my family doesnt usually celebrate mothers day or fathers day for that matter) but due to xc's bad/good influence i decided to get my mum something. i am even more broke now. haha.
