YLTC's over.

i slept for 17 hours.

last night we didnt sleep. we had to report at 3am and campfire ended at 11 plus pm and we had to clean the toilets so there wasnt really a point sleeping.
my recount just for keepsake:

day 1.
ice breakers. land expedition. leadership activity.
we travelled from school to changi ferry point. that was part 1, the easy part.
after that we had to go to pulau ubin and lug our 8-10kg backpacks worth of 5 day essentials. they send us to one end of pulau ubin, and then they send us to the other end. after that they wanted us to walk back again.
to me, that was one of the hardest part of the camp. i swear ill never carry such a heavy backpack and trek around again. my respect for backpackers have just gone up two notches.

day 2.
rafting. dragon boating. leadership activities.
pt in the morning by mr sham was killer. rafting and dragon boating were really fun! but i think the dragon boating part was kinda short. dragonboating reminded me of my days in canoeing, especially those memorable races where so many of us rowed so hard we actually cried when we crossed the finish line.

day 3.
kayaking. outdoor cooking. alumni talk.
i think this was possibly the most relaxed activity when compared to the land expeditions. im better at sea than on land =) it was slightly less than 10 km, and we took around 3 1/2 hours to complete. reminded me of my days in njcanoeing once again, where we rowed around 10km every training in around an hour. there were two kind of crafts, the gemini, the fat heavy things that were easy to control direction due to its stubbornness but hard to paddle and the wanderers, which were very much similar to the t2s. only the so called more experienced rowers were supposed to row the wanderers, around 6 out of a probably 30 boats. i chose the wanderer. what sucked was one of the new canoeing teachers, she joined canoeing the year i left, actually said that wanting and i shouldnt row together just because we were the only two girls rowing the wanderer together besides nina and dell who are both canoeists. i was sooo insulted. i told her i was in canoeing for two years. she gave us a really doubtful look and went to talk to the rest of the teachers namely people who have known me pretty well for the past two years and i think they convinced her we could handle the boat together. she came up to us yet again and asked who was rowing at the back. i guess we cleared her doubts once we were in the water as we were one of the fastest pair. it would have been queer if i wasnt faster than guys considering i rowed three to four times a week for two whole years afterall.
outdoor cooking was alright. our food actually tasted good =)

day 4.
height elements. campfire.
most of the rope courses were quite alright. flying fox was damn fun! the challenge pole was the one that i felt really really scared. taking the first step onto the pole was just plain scary i felt i was gonna drop off. campfire was pretty fun especially with such fun people around. our skit considering that it was planned just that afternoon and rehearsed only once turned out pretty okay. and mr heah once again ended it off with his ever endearing sense of humour: with a game of jedis, red indians, cowboys and cavemen, and his special rendition of the frog song - little strong frogs (mr tong), little shy frogs(ms koh) and little sexy frogs(ms lim). after that was clean up and we ended up in the guys dorm listening to ghost stories. it was super funny! in the midst of one of the ghost stories joel wearing white walked past the dorm, someone screamed and the rest of the girls screamed as well.

day 5.
final challenge.
we assembled at 325 am. no sleep. dropped off at kallang and had to walk back to school. WITH our backpacks. we walked so fast i nearly died. and we ran the last part. surprisingly we all had the energy to run cause we didnt want to be the last group back. ended up second =)

these five days have been memorable with many learning points. especially with a group like SWIFT. we werent exactly the most enthu crazy bunch of people but we sure worked well together and had loads of fun as a team. we were able to tap on each other's strengths well. couldnt ask for more after hearing some horror stories from other groups =) i just hope that these friendships last, at least for the next year.

wanting. yanjia. huiting. usarin. xueli. mel. yurika. john. karthik. ben. hanxiao. son. hafidh. and me. YLTC 2007.

we werent last. =)
