I came across this on facebook and I thought it was rather cute. There is some truth in it!
It reminded me of "the cave" as described in Gray's chapter 5 and “mens’ boxes” as described in the video we watched last week. I am not a fan of video games so I do not understand why some guys spend hours and hours on them! On top of that, some guys like to meet up and go for lan sessions together. Just imagine the stoneage where a bunch of men go into their respective caves at the same time. How odd. It seems to me as if video gaming is a way for guys to hide in their "caves", in which they can choose when to “emerge” and when to stay hidden in the world of virtual reality.
Perhaps by texting you back, the male is letting you into his “cave”. What an exciting place to be!
I have personally experienced a sense of “abandonment” when males hide in their caves via video gaming. Last semester, I was conducting psychological research for a statistics module and I was asking my hall mates to help me with my pilot study. It was extremely late at night, around 3 plus am, and I was desperately looking for the few kind souls whom were still awake to help. One of my good friends was playing L4D and he blew me off because he wanted to focus on his gayme!
There you have it - an outright rejection from the “cave”.

it is interesting to contemplate that the "cave" function Gray postulates may take different forms as society and technology evolve. Vid games may be stress releasing and diversionary but would not function as a "place" where men can retreat to work out their problems. It's more like a place to escape (from women?).
