another day of internship.
so happened that both my friend's and my supervisor were on mc today!
the first thing we said were, "omg please dont let us relief teach."
its okay to relief teach in nj, its okay to relief teach in st nicks, or in any other mixed school for that matter, but it really issnt okay to relief teach in sas!!
its like throwing us into the lion's mouth.
the first thing that our head supervisor said was, "oh okay heyy i think since you all are here you all can go relief their classes."
we gave her that you-are-so-totally-kidding look and said we werent ready. yet.
thank goodness she let us follow her to her classes. her first class, a normal tech class (i think) was amazingly well behaved. i kinda liked them.
then came the top sec 4 express class. omggggggggg. so noisy. dunno how they survive hahaha. like one quarter of the class got sent out of the class? quite funny actually. they were all standing by the windows peering into class and trying to copy stuff from the board. its like the noisier they were the happier they were. so different from a girls school where once the teacher walked in we would be quiet already haha.
anyway (here comes the learning part for moe to read) the way our supervisor approached the classes were vastly different. she gave loads of sweets and chocs to the normal stream class (i call it bribery) and asked more questions, making sure they understand while for the express class she just brushed through the whole thing and waited for them to ask her questions after class. i guess it just works differently.
i thought that was the noisiest it could get.
i was wrong.
i sat in for another teachers sec 5N3 class. omg. when the teacher talk, they talk. when the teacher dont talk, they also talk. when the teacher left the class to get something, they quietened down a little. funny. but somehow i still kinda like that class. there was this boy (hes indian, super big and tall) he turned to me and said, "ehh maam you chose to sit in in the wrong class laaaa. look at this. -points to the rest of the class- (so funny) if you can survive st andrews, you can survive any school already." i couldn help but smile.
then there was this other guy who came up to me after class and said,
"maam, did you understand what the teacher was talking about?" (actually the whole class was so chaotic i had no idea what she said)
but i just said, "mmm yaa i understood. did you?"
"no. i haven understood her for the past three years."
(OMG. i thought.)
"so have you told her?"
"yes! i told her many time already."
haha. i didnt know what to say.
and you wanna know what happens in a normal stream class? the teacher teaches. the boy dont understand. he dunno how to do. he ask his friends. the friends also dunno how to do. so they all dunno how to do. then they just sit there and give up. when they get bored enough they do weird stuff to draw attention to themselves. how sad is that. there was this boy who told me, "dont waste your time on me la im not worth it." omgg. so sadd.
also, there were those who would purposely test you and go, "ehh maam you very pretty leh." my art supervisor that i met later was quite worried for me cause she knew the boys were going to chat me up. haha i need to think of appropriate retorts. SOON.
anyway teachers are great actors like ive said. their in-class persona is soooooo different from their in-staffroom persona. its quite interesting to see them and the 180 degree changes they undergo once they step into the classroom haha. i need to learn how to do that. teaching is an art mann.
